Sarajevo, April 23 – The National Integrity Study (NIS), presented by Transparency International in Bosnia and Herzegovina at a conference in Sarajevo, showed a decline in the integrity of key areas important for the fight against corruption in the last eight years. The results of the study, presented in Sarajevo, indicate the biggest setback in the areas of public enterprise management, media freedom and civil society.

As stated by Srdan Blagovcanin, chairman of the board of directors of TI BiH, there is a strong dominance of political parties over institutions that should be independent, which leads to serious challenges in the efficiency of their operations.

Helena Lagerlöf, Ambassador of Sweden to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasized the importance of Swedish support in ensuring free and fair elections, as well as the rule of law. Alfredo Strippoli, head of the Rule of Law Section in the EU Office in BiH, emphasized that despite the challenges, there are positive developments that led to the opening of accession negotiations with the EU last month.

The report points to the need for further improvement of transparency and accountability of the public sector, including better management of public finances and depoliticization of public administration.
