The round table “Employment in Public Enterprises”

Sarajevo, December 14, 2023 – Transparency International in Bosnia and Herzegovina (TI BiH) organized a round table “Employment in Public Enterprises” at Hotel Evropa in Sarajevo, dedicated to improving the management of employment in public enterprises through the improvement of transparency, objectivity and efficiency, bringing together experts, academics and representatives of the public sector.

The mission and goals of TI BiH, closely related to the fight against corruption and emphasizing the importance of transparency in public enterprises were presented. A detailed “Analysis of policies in the field of employment in public enterprises in BiH” was presented, containing an overview of employment policies and highlighting the most significant problems concerning the business and management of public enterprises, which are mainly the result of insufficient transparency.

During discussion the participants considered the recommendations of TI BiH for improving the employment process, and among the key proposals were clear criteria for the appointment of management, regulation of conflicts of interest, transparency of employment, supervision and punishments for misdemeanors, the right to appeal, restrictions in election periods and strengthening of human resources. The importance of transparency in employment processes as a mean of fighting corruption was particularly emphasized.

It was concluded that the key to improving the business of public companies in BiH is to strengthen transparency and objectivity. TI BiH thanked all participants and partners, especially the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), for their support and contribution.

This round table represents an important step in strengthening the integrity and efficiency of public companies in BiH, whose conclusions and recommendations will serve as the basis for further action by TI BiH in the field of business supervision and work analysis, as well as advocating the necessary changes to the legal framework that regulates the work of public companies, with the aim of creating a more stable and transparent economic environment in the country.
