Transparency International Bosnia and Herzegovina (TI BiH) successfully launched a series of training sessions for journalists in Sarajevo on February 6, 2024, the aim of which is to strengthen the fight against corruption through media reporting. The training was aimed at informing journalists and activists about the challenges arising from changes to the Criminal Code, with an emphasis on protection from criminal prosecution, guidelines for reporting and publication, and rights in the criminal process. Participants received practical advice on how to protect themselves while maintaining objectivity, relevance and professionalism in their work.

A special part of the program was devoted to the rights of journalists in the criminal process, with a detailed overview of the stages of the process and advice for adequate protection. The training also included a segment on security measures and protection of journalists, media, activists and non-governmental organizations from attacks. In addition, the participants were informed about the mechanisms for providing legal aid, with details about the availability of legal support and ways to use it effectively.

The focus of the training was the presentation of a new handbook for journalists, “Protecting the rights of journalists and activists after the recriminalization of defamation”, which provides key guidelines for the protection of journalists and activists in the light of new legal challenges. The manual includes topics such as prevention, basic concepts of criminal procedure, and strategies for protecting the rights of journalists and activists. It is available for download at the link
