Meeting of TI BiH representatives with Central Election Commission members

Representatives of Transparency International BiH (TI BiH) Ivana Korajlić, Milena Mastalo and Srđan Traljić held a meeting with the members of the Central Election Commission of BiH at its headquarters in Sarajevo. The topics were past cooperation as well as future activities in the field of integrity of the electoral process, changes in electoral legislation, monitoring and supervision over the implementation of the elections themselves, as well as financing and activities of political parties.

During the meeting, the readiness of the Central Election Commission of BiH to improve cooperation with the non-governmental sector in the field of supervision over the financing of political parties and the financing of election campaigns was expressed, where the need for even more active involvement of Transparency International BiH was particularly expressed, with the aim of improving the Law on Political Party Financing, i.e. implementation of the first of 14 priorities from the Opinion of the European Commission on BiH’s request for admission to the European Union.

TI BiH, it was confirmed on this occasion, will organize a regional expert conference in order to arrive at the best applicable solutions  in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the exchange of experiences.

Organization of a series of trainings for political parties, provision of support through a project for the development of a new functional application for property records of elected officials, financial reporting and supervision over the financing of political parties, as well as activities aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Central Election Commission of BiH for efficient and timely supervision over financing of political parties and election campaigns is planned.

The joint assessment of meeting  participants is that it is necessary to urgently return the discussion on the modalities of electoral reform to the institutions of the system.

The cooperation between the Central Election Commission of BiH and TI BiH was evaluated as very good, and representatives of the CEC expressed readiness for its continuation in the coming period, especially in the period of preparations for the Local Elections in BiH in 2024.
