Sarajevo – Transparency International in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of Sweden, announces regional conference “EU Integration Forum”. The conference will be held on October 31, 2023 at Novotel Bristol Sarajevo, starting at 09 a.m.
Two decades after the summit in Thessaloniki and the promised perspective of full membership in the EU for the countries of the Western Balkans, the path to membership is still full of challenges. The countries of the region, although at different stages of accession, face a number of obstacles, including the hybrid nature of regimes and state capture. On the other hand, the EU faces its own challenges related to the integration of the Western Balkans, especially in light of geopolitical events such as Russian aggression against Ukraine.
In the context of stagnation of the EU integration process in the region, the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina deserves special attention, where continuous crises and systematic obstructions lead to increased international intervention. The “EU Integration Forum” aims to open a debate on the challenges and issues of the accelerated process of joining the countries of the Western Balkans, with a special emphasis on the rule of law and the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The forum will be attended by experts from the field of rule of law and EU accession, representatives of institutions at all levels of BiH government, as well as representatives of international organizations, civil society, academic community and media.
