The second Integrity School out of a total of four planned this year (Travnik, Trebinje, Bijeljina and Bihac) was held in Trebinje on Friday and Saturday (October 16 and 17). Students, students and young people aged 18-28, had the opportunity to discuss topics related to corruption in relation to economic development, rule of law and free access to information through professional lectures and open discussion with lecturers. At the opening, Nedjo Cebedzija, Deputy Mayor of Trebinje, addressed the students, focusing on the creation and drafting of the Integrity Plan as a strategically important document in the fight against corruption, which Transparency International BiH (TI BiH) is working on with the City of Trebinje. On this occasion, Ćebedžija stated: “Corruption is currently at a very high level in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska, and I think that you, as young people, must be a striking force in this fight against corruption.”
Within the lecture The Impact of Corruption on Economic Development and the Rule of Law and the Defense of Good Governance, students were particularly interested in how effective mechanisms for preventing and recognizing corruption can be established in practice. Through an open discussion with the lecturers, Svetlana Cenić and Srđana Blagovčanin, successful examples from other countries in the fight against corruption were discussed. The participants were especially impressed by the harmful effects of corruption, and many of them pointed out that these topics should be more present in our educational program.
After the completion of all four Schools of Integrity, the best student works dealing with corruption in the context of selected topics will be presented in a specially prepared publication, and the next school will be organized in Bijeljina in mid-November .
