INVITATION TO TRAINING FOR JOURNALISTS AND ACTIVISTS “PROTECTION AGAINST REPRESSIVE MEASURES – RIGHTS AND SAFETY OF JOURNALISTS AND ACTIVISTS”

Transparency International in Bosnia and Herzegovina is organizing a training for journalists and activists entitled “Protection from repressive measures – rights and safety of journalists and activists”, which will be held on February 6, 2024 in Sarajevo at the Holiday Hotel, starting at 10:00 a.m.

The goal is to inform journalists and activists about the challenges created by the changes to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Srpska and to train them, give practical advice on how to protect themselves from criminal prosecution, along with guidelines for reporting and publication, as well as give instructions and guidelines on rights in the criminal process and before the competent authorities. Through the trainings, issues of general reporting rules, norms and codes will be addressed, as well as specific guidelines regarding the new criminal offenses prescribed by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Srpska – what implications do they have in practice, what are the prevention mechanisms and approaches in publishing information and reporting in order to protect themselves from criminal prosecution, while maintaining objectivity, relevance and professionalism in reporting.

In addition, special attention will be paid to the rights in the criminal process, if they find themselves in the situation of being the subject of the criminal process, according to different stages of procedure and practical advice, in order to adequately protect themselves. A specific training segment will be devoted to security measures and protection of journalists/media, activists/NGOs from attacks.

A special part of training will be used to inform the participants about the mechanisms for providing legal aid, contacts through which they can seek legal aid, what type of legal aid they have available, at what time and in what way to seek it, etc.

Please note that the training is intended for participants coming from the Sarajevo region, given that the same training will be held in other regions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming period.
