Mostar, February 27, 2024Transparency International Bosnia and Herzegovina (TI BiH) started a two-day event called “Corruption as a fundamental threat to peace and stability”. The event brought together leading experts, representatives of the media, civil society, as well as young journalists and students in a discussion on the key challenges and strategies in the fight against corruption in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is held at the Mepas Hotel in Mostar.

The participants attended the introductory presentation by Srdjan Blagovcanin, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TI BiH, who presented the analysis “Captured state and captured society”, which analyzes how the legacy of conflict and systematic corruption shape the social and political order of BiH and explores the causal relationships between corruption, conflict and weak state capacities and their impact on social inequality and exclusion.

After the presentation, a panel followed on the role of the media and civil society in exposing and confronting corruption. The second day of this meeting is planned for workshops that are designed as a tool to provide young journalists and students with practical knowledge and experience in the fight against corruption, including the use of data as a journalistic tool and promoting integrity.

TI BiH with this initiative emphasizes the importance of joint work and partnership between different sectors in society in order to oppose corruption, which represents a serious threat to democratic processes and economic development in BiH.

TI BiH thanks all participants and partners for their engagement and contribution to this important event, and we express our special gratitude for the support of this project to Canada through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (Canada Fund for Local Initiatives).
