TI BiH and Zenica University sign the Memorandum of Cooperation

Banja Luka, September 02, 2011.Transparency International Bosnia and Herzegovina (TI BiH) will sign the Memorandum of Cooperation with the University of Zenica with the aim of establishing mechanisms and means of cooperation in the field of prevention and fight against corruption, as well as ensuring integrity and quality in higher education.

The University of Zenica is the first in a range of public universities with which TI BiH has established cooperation, aiming at an active engagement on the prevention of corruption in higher education through the adoption of anti-corruption plans at universities and the creation of preconditions for harmonizing the legal framework in this area. Realization of cooperation with universities in BiH is a part of the TI BiH activities aimed at defining the causes of corruption in higher education and their elimination through a strategic approach and application of pre-defined measures and anti-corruption plans.

TI BiH and the University of Zenica will commit themselves to joint involvement and participation in research, educational workshops, primarily in the creation and adoption of integrity plans and principles of transparency and accountability at the university. The same framework of cooperation will be established with other public universities, hoping that this type of cooperation between NGOs and institutions of higher education will become a common practice and that the anti-corruption plans, which are to be adopted in the future, will bring the expected results.

Memorandum of Cooperation will be signed by the vice-chancellor of the University of Zenica, Mr.Sabahudin Ekinovic and the executive director of TI BiH, Srdjan Blagovcanin. The signing will take place on Monday, September 05, 2011. at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in Tuzla at 11.00 a.m. and the event will be open for media representatives.
