Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina the World’s Most Corrupt Countries

According to the latest research conducted by the Gallup Polling and Market Research Agency on the prevalence of corruption in politics and public administration in countries worldwide, Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina are the worst ranked countries on the list, mainly, with the African countries.

According to this research, in the countries with partly free media, the highest level of corruption is recorded in Tanzania, where 95% of citizens believe that their politicians are very corrupted, informs Anatolia.

Followed by Kenya with 93, Greece with 92, Nigeria and Uganda with 91 per cent, Kosovo and B&H are among the countries with the highest level of corruption, with 90 or 89 per cent of citizens who believe that corruption in political life is very high.

Among other countries around the Balkans, high level of corruption among politicians and bureaucrats is noted in Serbia (84%). Followed by Albania with 82 %, Croatia 74%, than Macedonia and Montenegro with 67% noted as the countries with the lowest level of corruption in the region according to the Gallup’s survey, where 50% of citizens stated that there is corruption among politicians.

Political pressure

The high level of corruption is noted in Romania, where 80% of citizens claim that their politicians are corrupted, while 79% of Hungarians believe that the situation is similar in their country.

In Slovenia 76, Bulgaria 75, Slovakia 71 and Turkey 53 percent of citizens believe that there is corruption in the political life of the country.

Among the states with partly free media the lowest level of corruption in politics was recorded in Georgia – 25 per cent, Hong Kong – 30 percent in Somalia – 39 percent.

The Gallup Agency has researched the prevalence of corruption in politics in countries where freedom of the media is very limited, and where the media are often subjected to political pressure and censorship.

According to the research, when it comes to these countries, the highest level of corruption is noted in Chad (92%), followed by Cameroon with 89%, Honduras 87%, Russia with 80% and Zimbabwe with 78%.

On the other hand, among the countries with very limited freedom of the media, according to the respondents the lowest level of the corruption in the political life is noted in Rwanda 5%, Singapore 15% and Belarus 36%.

High level of corruption in the Czech Republic

According to the results of the Gallup Agency, among the countries where freedom of the media is at the highest level, the level of corruption in politics is highest in the Czech Republic 94%.  Followed by Lithuania, where 90% of citizens consider that corruption in the state structures is present, than Ghana with 89, Portugal with 88, and South Africa and Italy with 86%.

Among the countries with free media the lowest level of corruption in politics is noted in Sweden 14%, Denmark 15 % and 23% in Switzerland.

The results of the research conducted by the Gallup Institute on the prevalence of corruption in politics and public administration in the world were made ​​based on interviews with about 1,000 respondents, ranging from the age 15 and onwards from 129 countries around the world.

The research was conducted during 2012.
