Civil Service Agency of BiH has to react to irregular competitions

17 September 2011

Sarajevo, September 17, 2011. – Transparency International Bosnia and Herzegovina (TI BiH) appeals to the Civil Service Agency to investigate irregularities in the recruitment of state officials that have been referred to by Fuad Kasumovic, Deputy  Minister of Finance and Treasury BiH, in a recent interview for “Oslobodjenje”.

Namely, Kasumovic pointed at alleged irregularities that occurred during the competition for employment in the Ministry of Finance and Treasury BiH, suspecting that the Committee for conducting the procedure in advance determined the candidates who would be employed, and he even listed the names of those candidates.

Given that Kasumovic issued a request to the Civil Service Agency BiH to set aside the decision of the Commission, TI BiH believes that, if something calls in question the correctness of the implementation of the tender for recruitment, the Agency has a duty to act and not to allow the recruitment of state officials under suspicious circumstances.

Therefore, TI BiH calls on the Civil Service Agency to use its authority and respond to the implied irregularities, especially bearing in mind the increasing concern of citizens about corruption in employment, which is shown by the fact that the largest number of reports received by the TI BiH in 2010 were referred to irregularities in the recruitment of state officials.
