TI BiH organizes conference “Integrity of the election process in Bosnia and Herzegovina”

Sarajevo, 20. May 2021 – On the occasion of presenting recommendations for changing the legal framework in the field of electoral legislation and initiating a public debate on this topic, TI BiH is organizing a conference “Integrity of the electoral process in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, which will bring together representatives of the Interdepartmental Working Group election commissions and other stakeholders in this area. The conference will be held on the 21st. May at the Swissotel Hotel in Sarajevo starting at 10:00, and will be broadcast online via the Zoom platform.

TI BiH has been participating in the monitoring of election campaigns and identifying the misuse of public resources for years, and during the monitoring of the Local Elections 2020 in BiH, many shortcomings related to the application of the Law on Financing Political Parties and the Election Law were noticed. Based on the results of the monitoring, which will also be presented at the conference, TI BiH has made recommendations for improving the legal framework in this area.

Since the amendment of the electoral legislation is one of the 14 priorities set by the European Union to the BiH authorities, in order to maintain more transparent and fair the upcoming 2022 General Elections. It is necessary to prepare all changes to the election legislation as soon as possible.

The conference participants will be addressed by Eric Nelson, US Ambassador to BiH, Special Representative and Head of the EU Delegation to BiH Johann Sattler, Zeljko Bakalar, President of the BiH Central Election Commission, members of the Interdepartmental Working Group for Drafting Amendments to BiH Election Legislation. which will present the results of monitoring the 2020 Local Elections. as well as recommendations for improving the legal framework.
