Connected persons

Related persons are persons who have a certain type of close relationship with a person who holds a public office or is involved in the management of public resources in a way that may lead to a conflict of interest or abuse of position.

Related persons are defined by various laws, and generally include: spouses or persons who are married, registered partnership or living in a common-law union with a person who performs a public function, direct relatives such as parents, children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters of the person who performs public office, but also persons with whom they have a business relationship and the like.

Related persons are defined in order to prevent conflicts of interest and abuse of public office or privileges that could be granted to related persons. The identification of related parties enables transparency and integrity in the performance of public functions and public procurement, as well as protection against corrupt practices.
