Police of Primorsko-Goranska County in Croatia, in co-operation with USKOK
(State's Department for prevention of corruption and criminal acts),
arrested Ognjen Simic, principal of Cardio-vascular department of Rijeka
Hospital, in moment when he received bribe of 5.000 Euro's.

As it was stated, on 16th of August 18, 2006, doctor Simic received sum of
5.000 EUR from a 40-years old citizen after a phone call, promising that he
will do an urgent surgery intervention to her father, without paying
attention on patients’ waiting list.

During the search of the doctor's apartment, police found a big amount of
money that, as police is suspecting, doctor obtained in similar way.

Head of USKOK, Mr. Dinko Cvitan, said to media that corruption is the
biggest evil in Croatia. He also stated that this criminal act is discovered
thanking to the brave citizen of Rijeka and her timely information. That
resulted with quality preparation of complex measures between police and
USKOK to secure the evidences for this criminal act.

Doctor Ognjen Simic was born in 1955. in Sarajevo. He is married and father
of 3 children. He started working in Rijeka hospital in 1997.
